here's the thing

Obviously, many people in and out of the blogosphere will be commenting on the death of Anna Nicole Smith in the coming days. Here were my first thoughts when I heard the news via my friend April today:

1) There's one more baby in this world who has lost her mother.

2) Anna Nicole will never get a chance to show her daughter that people can change for the better, that there is hope even in the most devastating of circumstances. And, yes, I really do believe this. When that little girl grows up and becomes a young woman, the photos and video clips she will see of her mother will show her a woman who got rich and famous largely for being a walking train wreck waiting to happen. Anna Nicole was only 40 years old, and who's to say she wouldn't have reached a point in her life when she said, "Enough of this b.s. I need to figure out what it means to be an actual person, rather than a caricature"?

I just find this whole thing really, really sad.

  1. I totally agree! It seemed like she was starting to get it together, you know, her version of together...

I always wanted to like that girl. Under all the makeup and ditziness there was a pretty woman who just wanted attention.

Yes, sad. I pray the baby grows up okay.

  2. Mister Hubster and I had a similar conversation last night. She was most famous for her boobs, her lawsuits, and marrying a man that could've been her grandfather. Terrible legacy to leave behind. It's really too bad she didn't have time to something more of her life. But then I guess thats a lesson to all of us, to make the time we have more significant.

  3. Yup, I'm with both of you ladies. Heard on the news today that she was actually just 39...not even 40.

and I just heard on the radio that Zsa Zsa Gabor's husband was trying to adopt Anna N. Smith so that she could be royalty. Mr. Gabor contests that they had an affair for years and years and that HE could be the baby's father.

    The plot thickens.

Well said, Nicole. I also keep thinking there's something rotten in Denmark...the way her son suddenly died, and then she suddenly died, and the fight between 3 men over her daughter. There's something remiscent of the Jon-Benet tragedy. Or maybe I'm just generally suspicious.
